- 1 slow cooker
ingredients
- 800g ham hock
- 1 brown onion diced
- 2 carrot chopped
- 2 celery stalk, chopped
- 2 cup yellow split peas rinsed
- 1 leaf Bay
- 10 mug water
Method
- STEP 1 Place split peas on the bottom of the slow cooker.
- STEP 2 Add carrots, celery, onion, bay leaf, and ham hock.
- STEP 3 Cover with water.
- Step 4 Cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 4-6 hours, or until the meat is falling off the bone easily.
- STEP 5 Remove bone, remove the fat and skin. Chop the meat and return to soup.
Notes
This soup freezes well. I freeze in 1 portions of meal and microwave on high in a microwave oven saucepan until hot. Serve with bake bread rolls at home a bit 'grumpy. This recipe is for a hock 800g, if the hock is the smaller use less water in the recipe.
