ingredients

  • 800g ham hock
  • 1 brown onion diced
  • 2 carrot chopped
  • 2 celery stalk, chopped
  • 2 cup yellow split peas rinsed
  • 1 leaf Bay
  • 10 mug water

Method

  • STEP 1 Place split peas on the bottom of the slow cooker.
  • STEP 2 Add carrots, celery, onion, bay leaf, and ham hock.
  • STEP 3 Cover with water.
  • Step 4 Cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 4-6 hours, or until the meat is falling off the bone easily.
  • STEP 5 Remove bone, remove the fat and skin. Chop the meat and return to soup.

Notes

This soup freezes well. I freeze in 1 portions of meal and microwave on high in a microwave oven saucepan until hot. Serve with bake bread rolls at home a bit 'grumpy. This recipe is for a hock 800g, if the hock is the smaller use less water in the recipe.
